Little baby Oliver breaks his arm. No one will say what happened. His mother had been drunk on a night out. His father is angry and his sister is resentful. They all have something to hide…
I finished this book rather quickly as I just couldn’t put it down! The story is told by baby Oliver’s, three family members. I like how the author told the story from three points of view as it enables you to understand each character and how they dealt with the arrival of baby Oliver. All three characters are potentially guilty and each of them showed actions that made me hate them and others that I felt desperately sorry for.
The novel examines the dysfunctional family and brings light to some major issues such as infidelity, eating disorders and postnatal depression. It shows how even in our families there are lots of secrets. Can you ever really know someone?
The story was very intriguing following baby Oliver’s broken arm, the hospital visit and social services involvement. It was full of twists and turns which kept me on my toes throughout.
I really enjoyed this book and think it is definitely worth the read.
